Taha'a - The Vanilla Island

The island once known by Tahitians as Uporu, now called Taha'a, and commonly referred to as the Vanilla Island – while her name may change the place itself (stubbornly, blessedly) never seems to. Here, the days unfold at a tranquil pace, at one with the pulse of nature. Taha'a is little sister to the sacred island of Raiatea, the cultural heart of Tahiti, and the two islands share a lagoon. The people of these islands retain a way of life that is truly Polynesian.

To be in Taha'a is an experience out of time. Verdant mountains and valleys, impossibly blue waters, surrounded by tiny uninhabited islets ripe for exploration. Everywhere you look on this idyllic haven is lush greenery and blue wonder, and in the air the scent of vanilla mingles with the fragrant gardenia blossoms. The effect is intoxicating, and makes you want to throw away your to-do list and simply embrace the moment. The lush and fertile mountains and valleys are the perfect growing environment for the delicate vanilla orchid, carefully cultivated by family farmers for generations – prized by chefs & gourmands around the world, over 70% of the Tahitian vanilla produced in Tahiti is grown on the island of Taha'a. Pearl farms produce the wondrous iridescent black pearls unique to these islands. But the true treasures of Taha'a is the effect she has over you, like a siren song, calling you to stay forever in her dreamy embrace.
