Western Samoa

The Western Samoas are considered the heart of Polynesia. Early Polynesians sailed from here to populate other Pacific Islands. Today, these two politically separate countries share the world's largest full-blooded Polynesian population and a strong belief in tradition. After a short time in the Samoas, you'll learn how much fa'a Samoa- the Samoan Way- is valued. Much of the charm of the Samoas lies in the simple village life and the friendly people.

In addition to the friendly Samoan people, you'll find a striking landscape - soaring volcanic mountain peaks, rugged coastlines, calm lagoons and white sandy beaches, and tropical rain forests rich in flowering plants. The 16 islands of the Samoan group cluster near the heart of Polynesia. Stretching some 402 km/250 miles across the South Pacific, this chain of islands is divided into two political units. - The U.S. Territory of American Samoa and the independent country of Western Samoa.
